Smoking Chicken Thighs

I was just reading how The Smoke Ring cooks up their chicken thighs. I take it they are using a big pit smoker and was wondering if their methods can be done on the egg.
They suggest cooking at 225-250 for 4 hours, offset. I usually cook mine direct at 300 for 15 min a side.
Has anyone cooked thighs for this long? Does it make them that much better?

  • Wardster, i did the chicken thighs on stainless steel scuers (shish-kabobs) with onion between- indirect smoking above plate setter & drip pan on setter @ 300°F 2hours & then brushed on my favorite BBQ sauce (Cattleman from Sam's) and they were just fantastic.
the thighs were bought at Saverite (Winn-Dixie) on a special 99c/pound with skin & bone removed.
chicken thighs are the juciest part as compared to breast.
