Hi All:
I'm pretty much a newbie and having trouble at times with the Egg (Large) getting up to temp. Seems like there are lots of variables but that the clincher might be to make sure the lump is "stirred" or "wiggled" so that it's not caught in the air holes and restricting airflow. Does this sound right. Many thanks, DAF

    greetings,
just keep the vent holes unclogged and you should be good. don't be afraid to go in and stir up a fire once in a while it will not hurt it and will get back to glowing status in no time. Once you get the hang of the vent and cap settings down you should have no problems. there is a slight learning curve but it is minimal. do a couple of "test burns" and not worry about cooking to get used to the settings and variables.
watch what happens to the thermometer when you do adjustments.
In short it is all about the amount of draft going through the egg that controls the temp.
When in doubt just read my signature line below.

Where are you located & apx altitude?

Very seldom do I have to stirr/wiggle. Once I start wiggling it takes me an hour or two to stop.

Also, how are you lighting the lump & how long are you waiting to get it up to temp & what temp are you trying to get to?

    Hi Grandpa's Grub:

I'm located in SE MN - don't think altitude is an issue for me.

Lighting lump with starters and match. Can wait even an hour and temp may be stuck at 250 or so and I want it to get up above 350.

When you start "wiggling" why does it take you so long before you stop?

    Thanks! DAF

    fuel + air = heat

So if the heat is too low either air is too low or fuel is too low.
