First backdraft...OUCH!
Blazer
Posts: 47
I've been eggin' less than 2 months and am ususally careful about oppening the lid. Last night I was letting the temp climb to lava levels for some T-rexin' of steaks. I oppened the lid a little to quickly and wow... BACKDRAFT! That's pretty impressive. Not good, but none the less impressive. I really need to get a good glove, maybe a fireproof one. Any recomendations?

It was about two months when I had my first also. It's like a right of passage I think.

It was the first of many if you're anything like me. It's almost like I am destined to never have arm hair again. I know better and I know when my Eggs do it, but it just doesn't seem to matter. A couple of beers; a little distraction........FWOOMP!!!! Arm hair gone again.

I got a pair of Lincoln Electric welders gloves from Home Depot for about $13, works perfect for me.

I buy long leather fireplace gloves at discount retailers like Target or Wal-Mart for $2-3 per pair, usually in the early spring when they are on clearance. When they get nasty I toss them. I usually go through 3-4 pairs per year.
They are thick enough to pull a platesetter, change grid arrangements, etc. - but only if you move pretty quickly. I don't use them to handle food. -
I sold my Harley a few years ago & now use the long leather riding gloves every time I open the egg, after burning off all my arm hair countless times, I just put'em on no matter whats going on in the egg temperature wisehappy in the hut

I love my Orca (silicone) mitts, both for flashback protection and for moving hot plate setters, etc. Might want to invest in the "Pro" model, which has a longer cuff.

you probably did, but don't worry about it, when it happens, it happens so fast you'll smell the burning hair before you feel the heat - it gets the heart goinhappy in the hut

Nothing like the smell of singed arm hair.

Heard the Orka's are great. I saw them at a kitchen store yesterday. Much better price at QVC.
