Shifting lid

Any secrets to shifting the lid so it sits pretty much on top of the base, noticed last night that it had shifted a bit and killed my gasket. Went ahead and tore off gasket and going to put a new one on tonight, thought i might as well try to shift the top. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
