since they tend to be tart you could do this::: (i would increase the sugar)

    Apple, Grilled, In Parchment Paper

J Appledog, how about this one:

    INGREDIENTS:
    2 Granny Smith apples
    1/2 cup dried cranberries
    1/4 cup maple syrup
    2 tsp light brown sugar
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    2 Tbs unsalted butter, divided

    Procedure:
1 Quarter apples through core. Remove and discard core, then cut quarters into thin slices. Place slices in medium bowl. Add cranberries, maple syrup, sugar and cinnamon. Stir to combine.
2 To make packets: Cut 4 pieces of baking parchment paper, about 12 by 15 inches each. Spoon 1/4 of apple mixture into center of each piece and dot with 1/4 of the butter. Bring two long ends of each piece of paper together and fold over several times to seal top of packet. Twist other ends of paper in opposite directions to close packets.
3 Grill packets over direct medium heat for about 10 minutes. Serve in packets or pour mixture from each packet into a separate bowl. Either way, serve with ice cream, if desired.

Brother Doug, What a waste! If you ever tried crab apple jelly, you'd be pickin' em up. I'm thinking about adding sangria to some to make some apple wine jelly. Although, the wood is top notch for smoking.

if you stick them with an aluminum shaft arrow, then stick them again at 90 degrees you can load them with a fire cracker an using the arrow as a luancher toss them at the neighbors when they jump the fence trying to get close to the pulled pork in the egg. they really can be tossed pretty far with the arrow so keep firing as they run away. its bluberry time here, thinking about a spicey blueberry port chutney to pour over cream cheese or brie if i find a good recipe
