Help, just bought one. Big party planned this afternoon. Bought a large, but the nest they sent with it is for a medium. Are the nest sizes different???

Thanks

  • I am sure they are as my medium nest fits quit snugly. Do you have anything like cement blocks to set the egg on? If you can find some they will work just fine...except the mobility part. Make sure the egg is setting on its feet if you are placing it on a flat surface. No high temp showing off either until a dozen or so cooks below 400 dome temp.

Yes, the nest for the large is different in size and design from the medium's. The large has more structure to handle the additional weight.

Hopefully you have the 3 ceramic spacer feet, and a concrete pad. There is enough heat that just placing the feet on a wooden surface, like a deck, can burn the wood. It will be awkward to bend down to adjust the bottom vent, but you should be able to cook.

Avoid cooking above 400 dome temperature for the first 10 - 12 cooks. That way you can be sure the gasket adhesive is well cured. Depending on how you light it, it may take 15 minutes for the Egg to reach a dome temp of 250. However, above that, the temperatures can really rise quickly. Often, I find it only takes about 5 minutes to go from 400 to 700+.

If you are putting it on a wooden deck, go to Warehouse/Home store for a couple of concrete pavers, to insulate and raise the level.
    Congrats on your purchase.
