Temp Gage problem

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I have a great deal of moisture under the lense of my temp gage. Anybody have any ideas on how to dry it out? It would make it so much easier to read.[p]Thanks,
Cuzn Ed

    Cuzn Ed,
Here is what I do. Someone from this board reccommended it. Put your guage in the oven get then temp up to about 350 for 20 min. Let the oven then cool down and let it sit in there for about 2 hours. It will bake the moisture out. Then put a thin coat of nonstick or olive oil around the perimeter. I sprayed the whole surface let it sit then wiped.

Cuzn Ed, I am assuming you are talking about a second generation BGE thermometer which has the soft plastic lens. That model is notorious for that water problem. What I did was to take a Dremel and drill two tiny holes at 12 o'clock and 6'clock and then blow the water out, let it sun for a couple days and then fill the holes and the edge around the face with clear scilicone. Eventually though I replaced it with the new BGE glass face thermometer, but this method is another one to consider.
