I happened upon a whole, intact side of bacon..... anyone heard of or tried a bacon steak? I am thinking of cutting a slab approx 1.5 lbs and cooking it as if it were a steak most likely 4/4/5. Any suggestions?

  • Joel Ferman,
Can't say that I have ever done that but would think that the amount of fat would be something to consider. I am guessing that there is a huge amount of fat. If that is the case then a fast hot cook may not be the way to go. [p]Just my initial thoughts. Good luck with it regardless. Let us know how you cook it and how it turns out.
    Matt.

  • South O,
I have considered the fat problem.... I am thinking I might try a "sample" using the 750 degree method, then if it works well try the bacon steak.

Joel:[p]I think you would be much happier with the results of smoked bacon. Consider thick slicing that bacon and smoking as discussed in the link below.[p]If you do try bacon steaks, let us know how it turns out.
