Any of youse guys and gals who listen to the popular weekly Handyman Show on the radio have surely heard host Glenn Haege routinely tell people to grab the product called Contractors' Solvent and do this and that. Well today I finally bought 2 of the 33 oz bottles at ACE and plan to do this and that! with it. The thing that I'm really wondering is there is nothing addressing food safety issues with it, but if it's the super solvent that ends all then I know I'll be introducing Humpty to it someday soon. Naturally I'd never use it inside the egg, but maybe on the grate including the cast iron one. Anybody else ever use this? Any comments? BTW as cleaning products go this isn't cheap at $14 for a mere 33 oz bottle.

Hello? HELLO? - am I on a distant planet or something?

OK, I'll pipe up. Why do you need to clean the cast iron grate? The more you cook on it the more it gets seasoned and food shouldn't stick. I had cast iron grates on my "other" smoker and never once had to "clean" them. They just got better and better.

Easy off is cheaper and cleans the porcelain grate quite nice.
As for the Cast Iron one goes nothing stronger then water should ever be used to clean Cast Iron. Unless you like the taste of soap..
