So my new egg table is almost reay, just have to stain it and add wheels. Any thoughts on what would work best, castors or nice big inflatable tires? I will have to move over grass ever now and then. It is a Lg Egg

Nope, I'm at home tonight. I'll call momentarily. I have to get the limes cut for my weekend patron!

I saw some inflatable and ridged tires at Home Depot in the garden section. looked lie they could work well on a table.

Buy a cheap movers dolly from Harbor Freight and take the wheels off. They are 3-4" casters rated at 250 lbs. each and you can get the dolly on sale for $9 with all 4 wheels. I have them on my very heavy table and have moved it across grass, dirt, and gravel with no problem except for a little wet ground which let the wheels sink in a bit from the heavy weight of the table.

Here's what I used. Big fat ones (10") on the egg end, and smaller ones, (can't remember what size on the light end. Rolls pretty easily.
    Haven't tried grass.

    And the light end

Large ones from Home Depot, Small ones from Harbor Freight.

    Good Luck
  • If you're going to be rolling over grass I would recommend a setup like FlaMike. Definately go with inflated wheels, and swivel wheels on the light end. I really mean lightER end. The lighter end is not something I would want to lift, even just to aim the table in the direction I wished to go. Post pics when done. Good luck.

    Great work on the table!

I'm looking to do something similar for my table, and have already bought the wheels at Harbor Freight, but I haven't figured out what to use for the axle yet. Is that all-thread in your setup? Also, what did you use under the green feet of your egg?

    Thanks!

    Good info here...
  • I have casters on one end and 8" (I think)wheels on the heavier end. If I had to move my table across grass, I would have to lift up the not-as-heavy end.

If you need to go on varying terrain, Bigger wheels will work better. Go with whatever will make your life easier.

Yep, all thread (didn't know that's what it's called). Just hacksawed it to length.
I used common ceramic floor tile that I had left over. I used 2 of them. The top one cracked after about a month, but only once, so I left it there. I also used a piece inlayed on the table top

I got 10" inflatables from Harbour Freight Tools (about $8 each). painted the hubs egg green and ran my axles through about 1" on either side of the leg (not all the way across the bottom) Used spacers and washers and it works great. No wheels on "light" end, if a table with 2 granite inserts, a LBGE and all the trimmings has a "light" end! :pinch:
