We cleaned and scraped the top gasket piece, which was the most damaged. It is completely clean and free from adhesive. We left the bottom. It's fried, but in tact. Now the egg is sealing perfect again. I did order a new gasket, but I dont think we will replace it. We are now smoking a chuck roast (recipe on this site) and I am SOOOO HAPPY again......YEAH.

thank you for all your advise....now we are on our way again....
