Wings and Legs--Direct or Indirect?

Gonna make wings and legs for dinner tonight. Wife doesn't get off work until 7pm, friends aren't due over until 530pm, so time will not be an issue.
Debating whether to do indirect or direct. I also have a couple of the wing/leg racks from lowes that I have used in the past. I have always done them direct in the past but was wondering if they would be any better done indirect. Doing about 30 wings and 30 legs. Any thoughts?
Having chicken, keri hogg apple baked beans (has become a staple at all my cookouts), ABT's and salad. Making dear daughter some smores after dinner.

I prefer to do wings direct on a raised grid :woohoo: Wifey likes them crunchy

I would do the wings direct. The legs go indirect at 275 degrees for about two hours till 180 degrees internal.

I like them indirect at 350° till they reach about 190° internal. With the hangers the skin is crunchy and the meat moist. Usually takes about 1 1/2 hrs.

I vote for direct/raised direct and a lower temp fire. Either using a rack or a raised grate, mine take 2-1/2 to 3 hours to hit 175° internal.
A little less pit time when I do the bite-thru skin version because they spend some time in the sauce.

Personally, I do my wings indirect at 400 degress for about 45 minutes to an hour. I like mine crunchy without the char.
I do my legs indirect at about 275 and let them go for about 2 hours.
BTW, the chicken leg rack that you are seeing is a very cool tool.

Ok I am now lusting after those leg racks... I have never seen one of those before and frequent kitchen/bbq shops frequently.. Where do you find them??
-
Personally, I have seen the at both Lowe's and BBQ Galore.
I bought mine at BBQ Galore and paid a lot more than what they were at Lowe's

Hmm Lowes just built a bunch of stores in Ontario.. going to have to check it out. Thanks

I got my leg rack at Wal-Mart here in Ottawa. IIRC it was quite cheap. Maybe it's time to break it out this weekend...

No problem.
Hope you find one.
