Help!! Burned felt gasket
I left my egg unattended and had forgotten to place the daisy wheel on top (stupid!). Anyway, the result is that I torched my felt gasket. Have read varying opinions about replacing with a BGE gasket vs. using a stove gasket. Interested in the thoughts and opinions of anyone who has faced similar scenarios.[p]Let's see - I have a cracked firebox (replaced by my dealer with no problem), did a 12 hour successful pork butt cook and now torched the seal. Does that move me out of BGE "novice" status !? :-)[p]As always, I very much appreciate all of the helpful information shared on the forum. Thanks!

mmbbq, join the club - just like anything there are maintenance costs - even us humans! So you burnt your gasket - big deal - the question then is replacing with what. Personally I've on my second year with the Rutland material. Check out this "how to" site

mmbbq, replacing with new felt gaskets is easy. Buy the gasket from BGE an djust clean of fthe old one and stick the new one on. If you want to change to a Rutland gasket you will need to clean the old one off real well and then use furnace gasket cement to glue it down. I have done both and both work well.

kat,
Thanks for the link - this is exactly what I was looking for in terms of advice!! I like egg maintenance - it builds a strong bond with the egg :-)
