High heat...Fast butts....new lump

Man.....I didn't let my fire settle in and it hurt me all night.
Started 2 - 7.5lb butts on raised Woo2 at 10:00pm with DigiQ set for grill temp. at 225.
Fire was OK to start but it must have climbed over the next 2 hours. At 12:30am heat was at 280 so I closed vents down ......high coming down...I thought........1:45 another alarm at heat at 295....close both vents completely....waited 15 mins. heat coming down, so I opened fan vent to 1/2 and back too bed......5:30 alarm again.....heat 315 and butts 205....done.....less than 8 hours...O'well learn my lesson. Butts wrapped and in the cooler.....early 4th lunch today.
I bought a new lump at Winn Dixie....maybe it burns too hot.
Anyone tried this new lump from Dixie?

On my last butt cook I had a similar experience, but the pulled pork still turned out to be very, very good. I hope your turns out the same.

Close the damper on the digiQ to 1/4 or smaller. Mine will do the same thing.
