I've done baked potatoes twice on my BGE and they turned out great without putting holes in with a fork;however, both Alton Brown and Tyler put fork holes in. Does this make a difference in the final product?

I have had potato explode in the convection oven. Would not be a problem in an egg but a mess in the oven.

I have never ever forked a potato and have never ever had a potato explosion. BTSOM! I've been doing potatoes in the medium Egg lately. I oil them, rub them with Dizzy Pig Raising The Steaks. The put them on a pizza stone on a raised grid at 400 degrees for 1 hour and they are the best potatoes I've ever made.

PS are you related to Dan Quayle? It is "potato" exploding in a convection oven has happened to me more then once. May be the moisture can not get out and a steam explosion takes place.
Just joking on the spelling. We here in Indiana are sensitive to the spelling since old Dan mistake.

Do baked taters both regular and sweet on the egg all the time..never fork them..never foil them...I evoo them, sprinkle on some cracked pepper and kosher salt, maybe a lil rub (we like the JH Pecan on taters), lay em on the rack and let em cook..I cook them to about 200 internal and check with the thermapen, but usually 45-60 mins will do it..

Alton Brown and Tyler do that cause they are on TV and people will do what they do, safety first sort of. Me, none exploded and I dont fork.

...except that the plural of "potato" actually IS "potatoes", with an 'E'
