Search, memory and freezing

When I search the forums, the browser ends up consuming an ever increasing amount of memory then freezes the browser after a while - I need to kill the browser instance using TaskMan. Is this the normal result of searching or is there a way to move more of the processing on the server and away from the client? My PC is a Pentium IV running WinXP SP4 with 0.5 Gb of memory - not the most powerful machine, but one wouldn't think I'd need an Intel Core2Quad with 4 Gb of memory to search a web-based forum. Thanks.

  • It's not your machine. We didn't like how search worked either (taking way to long and returning too many results for some searches). WMK worked over the weekend on implementing a new search algorithm. Preliminary testing indicates a VAST improvement in search speed and relevence of results. It just needs a little more work. We should be done soon.

I think you'll be happy with WMK's results.

  • Thanks for the update. Searching the cookbook section is fine. It's just searching the forums and from the home page that causes the memory and CPU problems with browser freezing.
