Hi - new to the BGE - love the ease and taste of the food, but was cooking tonight for just the fourth time and the gasket tape MELTED and stuck together - was difficult to open egg for a while - finally got it open but gasket tape pulled away - will need to replace - has anyone had this happen???

    Yep almost all of us!!!

It's easy to replace it actually
  • You should also do several "break-in" cooks at no more than 350 or so for the first 3-5 cooks. It is tempting to get it roaring hot and throw a pizza or a steak on, but wait till your gasket is broken in. Better luck with the next one. You can do a search on the forum to see some advice on preparing the surface for the new one.

    Gasket Meltage...

Is that French for something kinky using a hasket?

    Or three gaskets uniting...

  • It just happened to me also. I was doing a high temp burn (about 650) to clean the egg and when I went to open the lid, it no open.. Was fused shut. I used a sharp putty knife and was able to free it and get it opened but the gasket is shot. I am going to Menards today to see if I can pick up the Rutland gasket that the Naked Whis talkes about on his website. If Menards does not have it, I found it on Amazon.com for 11.99. I am not looking forward to scraping the old gasket off. It seems to be bonded to the egg pretty good. If anybody has any ideas on a easy way to remove the old gasket, that would be appreciated.
    Thanks

No cooks over 400 degrees for the first 10 cooks.
