GETTING HIGH TEMPERATURES

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I just got a medium egg. It does not get up to 600-700 degrees. Do you have any suggestions. I leave the bottom door wide open and the 2 piece top open. It only seems to get to 450-475 degrees. I do have a bge temp gauge. Thanks
Could it be the guage. I calibrated in boiling water. I adjusted to 212 degrees and now the guage reads i00 degrees when it is cold and not being used

  • harvey pepper,[p]You say, you have the two piece top open. Take it off. The more air you get through the fire, the hotter it will get. Leave the top vent off altogether. [p]Also, is the hole in the firebox facing forward so that it lines up with the bottom vent? [p]Also, have you make sure none of the holes in the grate and firebox are blocked with ash or chips of lump? [p]And finally, are you using lump that is big enough pieces to allow air to flow through it? I once used some really small lump (small pieces and chips) and could not get my egg above 500 degrees because not enough air could get through the lump. Your average lump should work fine, but sometimes, you get a bad bag or you dump in the bottom part of the bag and end up with a lot of very small pieces.[p]TNW
