Gasket Cleaning?

Can I clean my crusty, greasy, matted, ugly bottom gasket with a little soap and water and a scrub brush? I just reset my dome to correct an overbite and now I am failing the dollar bill test. Might be that the "overbite" allowed portions of the bottom gasket to become toasted, but, when I scrape it with my finger nail I seem to still have fibers that are just matted down. Small plastic scrubrush and a little Dawn and water? Any advise would be helpful? thanks rc

Forget it, just accept that your gasket will be compressed and greasy, it is inevitable. I don't think there is any gasket left on my oldest one, just grease, it seals up nicely. -RP

Considering the source, I think I will take the advice. thanks rc
