Charcoal Grate Replacement Help Please!

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
This past weekend the porcelain grate on my large BGE broke in 4 pieces. I was able to temporarily glue it back with JB Quick Weld long enough to cook our company’s dinner. I suppose I could just replace it with new porcelain BGE grate from my local BGE store, but I seem to remember that someone posted information on the Forum last year about a metal replacement. Does anyone have any leads on such a replacement?[p]Thanks so much in advance! David

  • Rub-A-DubDub,[p]I use a cast iron trivet I ordered from the Lodge cast iron people (of the iron skillet fame), works extremely well for me. Also most hardware/plumbing stores carry metal floor drains that work well also.
I have a medium Egg and the 8 inch trivet from Lodge works fine in the medium Egg. Hope this is of some help.

    Rub-A-DubDub,
Tell your local dealer that it broke and you would like to replace it with the new cast iron one. BGE has it and I suspect it should be a warranty issue. My dealer just handed it to me when I told him mine broke several months ago.
Yet another reason to buy locally and not on the net.

<p />Rub-A-DubDub,[p]Forget the ceramic grate! Go steel and you'll never look back. Call Bge for one.[p]Tim

    Rub-A-DubDub,
I walked into BGE Hq in Atlanta last week with my grate in 2 pieces and they handed me a nice, new metal one. Give them a call.

  • Thanks to everyone for the help! My BGE store in Atlanta gave me a free replacement!!! I also took the opportunity to buy some other items while there, like the new "Butt Rub" and got the new ceramic (lifetime warranty) insert that diffuses the fire's heat evenly. I can attest that this thing works, as I fell asleep waiting to check my chicken & ribs, and when I woke and went running outside to see my ruined food. Well, it wasn't ruined, it was the best I've cooked yet... and nothing was over cooked or burnt. This was the best $30 I've spent on my BGE![p]The folks at the BGE store are GREAT and I haven't been mislead yet. Thanks, also, to everyone that replied to my request for help on the grate replacement.[p]David - Rub-A-DubDub

Rub-A-DubDub - clue us in about this "new insert" or would you be talking about a plate sitter by chance?
