Polder thermometer?

I woke up this morning to find that my fire had gone out on my pork butt overnight. Everything was still very hot, but the dome thermo read about 150. Since I didn't know how long the fire had been out, I got it going again and inserted the Polder thermometer. It read 136 in the middle of the butt. About an hour after the fire had been going at 250-275 the butt was at 164. I opened the egg one more time to add water to the drip pan. Upon closing the egg, the Polder went nuts. The displayed temp jumped up to over 250 and bounced around a while. It now reads 214, but I don't think that is the right temp.

Has anyone had similar problems? How do you reset it?
