can we use walnut for smoking???

well my dad needs to cut down his walnut!! long story...
can i save it for smoking chunks and chips or is walnut no good for smoking?

    Most any wood that produces an edible nut or berry can be used for smoking; however, Walnut produces a very strong smoke. If you like that than fine. If not, don't use it for smoking or use it very sparingly

    i use walnut and like it. make sure it is english walnut and not black walnut. the black walnut is very oiley and puts off a lot of soot when burned. i started using walnut about 6 months ago as i live in the Blue Diamond Walnut capitol in Norcal.try a small piece at first and regulate up from there to suit your tastes.
