  • jeff,
There should be no problem maintaining lower temps.
    1. Get a good glowing lump base
    2. Damper your lower and upper vent down
    3. Enjoy the great food[p]I have done many batches of beef jerky and have no problem maintaing low temps [p]It's just eggcredible[p]Michael

  • jeff,
To try to maintain those kinds of temps are very difficult no matter what type of cooker you are talking about with setting up some to cool the smoke or use a hotplate to generate the heat.
Build a fire and generate the smoke in a separate cooker piping the smoke to your egg.
If you can locate a small electric burger cooker, they can be used to generate smoke and heat.
To try to do it with charcoal in the cooker would require constant monitoring and feeding of the fire because it would have to be a very small fire.

jeff,I have luck with 180º temps by adding one peice of lit lump in a clean firebox , no other coals but that one, intake almost closed and the exhaust almost closed, one peice of lit lump will do it for you.[p]When I need another one to replace the burned one, I pre-burn another peice before I drop it in the cooker.[p]Mop

jeff,[p]try MickeyT's smoke rings. If you start the fire right - like Mop or Jim said - you could probably get a long ride on 180º with a No 1 Ring and a bottom vent open about a half-inch or less.[p]CB
