Gasket Q

Keep reading about gaskets: felt, Rutland, nomex. I have the impression that nomex is the way to go. My gasket is fine now, but I was wondering if the mothership is using nomex on production Eggs now or just making it available as an upgrade.

Last I heard. It was an upgrade only.
  • When I was there about 2 weeks ago, I asked about the Nomex as a replacement and Bobby Q recommended the original gasket. That is what I bought and reinstalled on my egg.

Another option that I have used quite successfully is a product by the Cotronics Corporation: their Thermeez ceramic tape, cat.#397-41 which is a 1" wide tape x 1/16" thick, good for 1500 deg. If memory serves, the 100' roll is about $45 and will do seven large eggs. Adhere to egg with hi-temp silicone.

Another product they have which I am about to order is their Resbond 907GF 2350 deg. adhesive and sealant which I will use on my broken (two pieces) fire ring.
