My wife had a 3.5 lb center cut pork roast in the freezer and she informed me that I'll be cooking it on the egg tomorrow
She usually puts it in the crock pot with a bunch of viddles and it's decent. I've never cooked a roast outside and I'm new to the BGE.
I want to keep it simple - I just want something to come out right.
What is a good simple way to prepare and cook a roast like this?
Thanks in advance
Jay

What flavor/flavors are you looking for? Something Southwestern perhaps?
If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.

How simple do you want? A nice rub all over the meat. Indirect at 250 with a drip pan, until a pull temp of 145. Oh, add a little apple or cherry wood for smoke.

the simpler the better
All I have for wood at the moment is Jack Daniels chips. Would that be good? What sort of rub would you recommend?
how long should it cook? -
A pork loin that size will probably take 1.5-2 hours to cook, more if you do it as low as Mike's directed. Pull by internal temp, not time.
There are many superb rubs on the market. Dizzy Pig makes several of them, but unless you're in the Fairfax, VA area, you'll need to get them on the internet. John Henry is a popular brand that makes more rubs than you can imagine, all of them good.
The Jack Daniels chips will be good, but Mike is right...a nice chunk of cherry does special things to pork. -
No,no,no to bitter. If you have no rub, get some from the store. Lawry's is beter than nothing.
Shoot me an e-mail if you want to talk.

Never buy Lawry's when Emeril's Original Essence is available.

You can also rub with a mixture of salt/pepper/garlic powder/sugar........equal parts. The store bought or fancier rubs are very good, but certainly not a requirement to have awesome egged food.

OK, I have some of Emeril's Original Essence and I plan to cook the roast at 250. Do I put the roast directly into the drip pan?

Thanks everyone for the help. The roast came out really nice.
My 1st edible meal with the egg! Whoa!
Many more to come I hope.
