So, someone posted something a while back about checking your fish for worms. What is it that you look for again? I just bought some fresh wild sockeye....and remembered the worm thing.

Eeew Kim! No way... not if it truly is wild sockeye!!
With farm raised fish - god only knows what you might find, but not the wild stuff. Unless of course it sat outside in the back on someone's truck and bugs laid eggs in it, but that would be true of any piece of meat.
If someone has been saying that they got worms outta the wild stuff, then I would bet you 110% that their grocery store/ fish person is lying to them about what they are selling. -
I remember that post about the worms in salmon too, but don't remember the specifics, I just got back from Florida and went fishing while I was there and we caught some grouper and when I was getting ready to cook it I saw black spots in the meat. After closer exam I found that they were worms or at least some kind of parasite, I wasn't sure what to do and these were only 2 hours from swiming and deep in the meat. If any body knows about this please let us know

I've personally never seen worms in any Salmon, but I've caught fresh water Bass and Brim that had them. Some of my salt water catch of Blues and Trout have had them too. Just cut a fillet and hold it up to the sun or some other bright light. If they're there, you won't have any trouble identifying them. They look like worms!

Well, someone said it's protein, but I just can't do it. Our oceans are getting really screwed up. Just my opinion.

I have seen worms if you want to call them that in Grouper and Sea Trout that I have caught in Florida. I have read many articales about such in many fishing magazines and the only real problem that I would be even remotely woried about would be Cigtura. They are all parasites and the only one that I know to be a real health risk is the Cigatura (could be miss spelled). The worms are harmless after cooking but the Cigatura is still a very bad problem even after cooking and can be deadly in severe cases. I know nothing about worms in Salmon. I once thought that I knew everything but I later found that I was wrong.
Cigutara is found in smaller reef fish and the bigger reef fish after many meals of smaller reef fish become toxic with it since they have been eating so many smaller fish. A 10# Grouper would in theory would have eaten less Cigatura infested fish than a 50# Grouper. Hence the larger the reef fish the higher the risk.
Sorry for such a long post but it is what it is and I hope it is of some help.

I am just your little ol fish peddler and sell between 250-300 pounds of salmon a week for 16 years (farmed, all natural and wild) and have never seen any worms in salmon. Now other species are a different story. I will ask several of the worlds largest importers on Monday and see what they say. Eat more fish!!!!

I'm with you. Fish is good eats, salmon is great.
