If you had 3 butts to cook....

Rolling Egg
Posts: 1,995
How would you do it? I currently have a 7pound a 7.7 pound and a 8.4 pound. I have only cooked one butt at a time so far. I figure I could get all three on my grate but Im sure they would hang over the drip pan. I have a wireless probe and I figured If I did all three at once I could start with probe in the small one and move it on up as they get done. I hate to open the dome 3 different times to get three butts done but Im sure it wont cause too much diff. I could do 2 diff cooks. What would you guys do?

I'd cook all three of them.. put your remote in the smallest one. When it's done move the meat probe to the next smallest one. If it's done then stick the last one.
However, you are going to find that the done time for a 7 pounder versus a 7.5 pounder won't be all that different. -
great info. I figured from the 7.7 to the 8.4 I would be @ hour diff. What about the drip pan? Is it that big of a deal for the roast to hang over and drip on plate setter?

There might be some dripping into the fire, but you can avoid that but using foil to extend the sides of the drip pan so that the meat drips into the foil.
