i think so but this should have enough info to get you started.

From what I have read there are different tastes from different sour dough starters but not sure if it is very slight or noticable. I have never tried to do a taste test. The native yeast in the area where the starter was first started is what is suppose to influence the taste.

Hah! I just looked up that site/bookmark -- and you beat me by seconds!
The length of time of the first rise determines the depth of flavor... you can rise for 24 hours on counter top, followed day days in the fridge... then bring to room temp again and off you go to a more robust flavor.

Look, no-knead sour dough.
I need to spend some time there, thanks for the information.

any idea how much bread can be made using the 14 dollar starter?

I don't know a lot about this but I( would think you can buy starter, beg borrow or steal starter from someone else or start your own starter.
Once you get it you continue to 'grow' that batch and it will last forever, or probably better stated growing for ever.
