Chalk One Up For The Old Styles Gaskets

And while we are at it, where is Bill Engvall, because he needs to hand me my sign. We did a batch of ribeyes and about 20 minutes later I realized that I probably had not shut the vents. I go outside and the needle is pegged way past 750 (original BGE thermomerter).I close her up and when she got down to a decent temp I opened her up and all seems fine, with a little smoke coming off the gasket, but it looks good. A few minutes more and it would have been a different story.

  • That's what I call dodging a big bullett ! Doing that too many times will result in a call to BGE for an new gasket....like when I torched my first gasket...I could not even open the lid. It welded shut. I had to get on the forum for emergency help to get it open...ha ha ! Glad your gasket survived !
  • Abe,

Close call for the "flashback" as well.

Be careful when you open the lid after shutting all the vents.

Don't ask me how I know... :ermm:
