I have made buckboard bacon several times with the Hi Mountain Cure with good sucess. This time I decided to try my own cure. I used about 4 parts kosher salt and about 3 parts brown sugar in the cure and followed Hi Mountains directions thereafter. It turned out great, every bit as good as the commercial cure
