activating profile

Hey guys!

I know I'm way behind on actually doing this, but I've finally gotten around to activating my old profile on the new boards.

Here is my problem:
I find my old handle no problem, fill in the required new info and hit the activate button. when I do, I get a message box saying that I didn't enter a valid security code.

Please help! I'm also looking to change the email address attached to the profile, but still have access to the old one for now.

Yes, there is, on the new profile registration, not if you're activating an old profile from the previous boards... I would just create a new one, but I want to use the same handle, and can't becuase it "already exists".

We added the security graphic to the registration process because we were getting spammers that created accounts and then used them to post pornography. You've found a hole in the new addition which we'll go fix right now. It will take a few minutes to add the security graphic to that particular screen.

I'll post another reply when that's done. I may also move this post to the forum feedback section; so, you don't need to post again over there.

Hmm -- well, that was easier than I thought -- it appears to already have been done. How did you try to activate your profile? There must be a path somewhere that does not yet have the code, but if you visit the link below, you should see the graphic (I did).

That's an unfortunate truth. Pretty much every forum I am a member at or just read is havng the same problem. Its a sad state, and I totally agree with the increased security measures.

Just thought a little more info can't hurt. I am using IE for this, my browser of choice (Opera) doesn't much like that page at all for some reason, thus I switched to IE to do the activation.

I guess we'll have to add Opera to our list of browsers to test. It's not easy to test everything with all browsers -- we just don't have the manpower to test everything with so many different browsers. We already test with IE, versions 6 and 7, FireFox (both Mac and PC versions); and, Safari on the Mac. I bought a Mac so I could get things working better for our Mac users out there. There's also Opera and the AOL browser (which I think is Netscape Navigator which AOL acquired some years ago).

As far as I have been able to tell, the only part that hasn't worked in Opera so far was the registration. I admit, Opera isn't exactly a well known browser, it is most often used by people in the tech field (such as myself).
