Egg Head Challange

Facts first...2nd year BGE user...Put on a 9.75 pound Boston Butt yesterday. Cooked it at 220 for 20 hours and 250 fo 1 1/2 hours..Took it off at 198. Couldn't ask for better pulled pork today. Now for the challange for you guys and gals. During the cook I went through a tornado warning (sirens blasting), severe thunderstorm warning ( winds varied from gusts to 35 out of the south to 45 out of the north), 2 inch downpour of rain, and towards the end of the cook another 1 inch of rain with hail. Now can anybody beat that?? The BGE stayed pretty much rock solid on temps .

Well the hurricanes of 2004 but no pics. 3 in 6 weeks but kept cooking. Wife got mad when I moved the egg in the house but when power was lost for a week we became friends again.

this is "apples and oranges"... i can't compare directly. no tornado warnings here.
but i did put on a butt once around 10pm with a blizzard warning in effect, no snow on the ground at the time, but due to start overnight. woke to 16 inches of what was eventually 27 inches of snow and all i ever did was go out to wipe the snow away from the lower vent (once).
held 250 the whole time, maybe 20 hours.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
Once, while I was on a BBQ cruise about three years ago in Mexico, we went through Hurricane Isis. Had my BGE on deck, strapped to the railing as the water was pounding my BGE not only from the hurricane itself, but from the ocean water coming over the deck of the ship.
The BGE with stood the elements, but I was having a hard time controlling the temperature, because those 150 MPH winds that were present would sweep through the bottom vent and keep the coals a little hotter than what I wanted.
All-in-all, I came in third place. Not to bad considering everyone else dropped out, except for two other guys who continued to stay for the competition. -
You in Kansas Toto? :woohoo: Lots of activity there.

Yep, central Ks, and looks like we are in for it again tonight. The Egg is covered tonight. -
Never had that kind of weather down here, but one time it was so hot that I had to put ice in my Egg to smoke some cheese...

Does that count?

Where at? My brother is the Principal at Nemaha Valley. That is about more east than central. I know you guys got hit hard. Take care.

Nothing as extreme as that, but I did some chicken legs on this day:

Were you using a Guru or Stoker? If not you gotta love the egg.

Just the egg and the daisy wheel on top. The egg is awesome. I had a family dinner that was depending on the pulled pork and I was afraid I was going to let them down. Turned out the best most tender pulled pork yet.

Salina..where do you do your cooking??

As a funny side note...I was telling my grandkids today that during WW 2 the fighter pilots that downed enemy aircraft were given a decal to put on their fuselage showing how many they downed. An egger should have a lightening bolt decal or something similar to put on the side of the egg after going thru a storm with a successful cook.
