Hi all, Great Forum!
Great knowledgebase and very helpful members!
Just bought a large BGE Friday evening - butt roast on by 11:15 am Sat. - didn't go perfect, but turned out great! Didn't get to eat it til lunch today.
After some trial and error getting the temp to stabalize (now I know how to better build and light the lump)I had the internal temp to 160 by 10:00 pm, hit the plateau that I read about, dome temp was fine - checked again at midnight - was holding at 235 or so - when I went out at 5:00 am this morning the dome temp was 120 and the internal temp was about 100 - thought about aborting it - then I read up on it and decided that since I had reached well over 137 I could save the butt - I moved it to the oven and cooked til about 1:00 pm at 275 when the internal finally reached (or re-reached) 190.
In between time and til about 10 minutes ago I have been building a table for the new egg. A friend had a load of reclaimed cedar in 3 1/2" x 7 1/2". So I spent the day sawing and planing the wood to usable dimensional lumber. Hope to make a lot more headway tomorrow. I guess the memorial day will turn out to be my baptism by fire into Eggdom.
Have to decide what to cook tomorrow!!!
Thanks for the great forum!
