Lump left

I just pulled a picnic roast after 16, almost 17 hours, and I am amazed at the amount of lump left.

As shown here, is this normal?

    No Joke. I did a 10 hour cook and the Large used probably 1/4 of the lump.

    If you filled to the top of the fire ring or almost to the top, what you have there would be pretty close.

    Mix it up a little and you will see there is less than what appears to be there now. It isn't uncomon for the lump to burn underneigh the top layer.

    Neverthless, there will still be a lot of lump left.

    Unusual burn pattern but I've done an 18 hour butt cook, then the chicken, later a wing rack, then a steak on a full load. Still had lump (not much) after all those cooks but always reload before a long one.

    That looks about right! The egg is so efficient that you may get many cooks from one load of lump! WELCOME!!!
