I like the weedburner but the downside is you cannot spot light.
It lights the whole grill and anything within a 10 ft. radius. :woohoo:
:S . Use the map whenever doing low temp cooks. -
Down there you need that 10 ft radius to keep those gators away.
You guys need to start closing you doors and quit using just the screen door, saw where a 8 footer broke into someone ladys house and was making itself at home.
I use the torch from Harbor frieght, just got it last week. It is 29.99 on-line but 39.99 in the store, at least last week it was. So you have to either bring in a copy of the price from online or talk to a manager to see if they will honor--go figure.
Hey pat, how many spots do you light for a low and slow, I have been doing three, but I read last night where someone said they only light it in the center. -
I use MAPP gas but how about using just propane? It is a lot less expensive then the mapp gas.
I would caution about lighting just on one place for low and slow. I have had instances where I got a vertical burn and the fire going out with a lot of lump in the box. I will light four or five places when doing low and slow and then shut down the air flow. I don't think it matters how many spots are going, if they are deprived of oxygen they burn very slow. -
Got a MAPP and used it for the first time yesterday on a low & slow. MAN, I'll never go back to the squares or paper towel & oil trick. I lit in 3 spots - about 10 seconds per spot and got a nice, even temp rise up to where I needed to stabilize. GREATNESS!

yeah, that is what I thought, will continue to do 3. I have had no issues in myu 3 or 4 overnighters and I don't use any of the monitors.
-
I got a MAPP burner with about a 4-foot hose. I keep it in a drawer in my egg table and takes about a minute to light a few spots. Cost about $35 at Menards, couldn't be happier with it.

Our Harbor Freight will honor web prices, but we have to print off the page and take it in when we buy locally.
The weed burner (flame thrower) is great expecially in cold weather.

Says who?

Now the weedburner only connects to a full size gas tank correct?
That is my main issue, the MAPP torch is nice and portable, if I had an adapter for the weedburner to a Coleman (or similar) propane tank, I'd go that route.

...so let me get this straight. You all want instantaneous lighting of the lump so you can then cook for 18 hours...in a way it's almost funny to watch this debate . What happened to good ole' matches? p.s. note however that I just bought a mapp torch today...Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241

Fidels photo reminds me of those pictures you see of napalm being dropped on Vietnam. Too intense for me...I'd burn down my screen enclosure with flames like that. Do I see any hair left on that arm in the picture????Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241

When it is -17° below you are darn right.
If you want to use matches take your 18 hr cook and add another 2 or 3 hours.

For a low I agree I just light in the center thats why no weedburner for low & slow. But back to the Gator  turned out it was a semiinole fan so no harm done   .
Guess i just burned the bridge for an invite to the Egg-Ma-Hall :( :( .I promise I'll only wear my old gator stuff
 . -
Just so everyone knows, that photo by Fidel shows the max flame that the weedburner can put out. I use my burner all the time, and neveer have to use that level of intensity. You can control the flame from very small to BLAST!. It's the best.
