Bill in VA,
We use a drip pan under ours.

Bill in VA, as for catching the melted fat vs falling in the fire - yes whether it is a dry pan or not - some do some don't just a matter of choice. Personally I do and mix 50/50 apple juice and water, though with a BGE the added moisture isn't a necessity, but spritzing with apple juice from time to time helps from them getting too dried out. Got a coin/ flip it! ^oo^~

Bill in VA, I do mine direct at about 225 - 250 degrees with a lot of smoke. I rub them down with kosher salt and a good steak spice first. About a half hour prior to them being done I slap on a good barbie sauce (one side at a time 15 minute interval). I do elevate the grill to the upper level however. Lots of luck.
