Time required to smoke a chicken.

I am smoking a 4 1/2 lb. chicken at 250 degrees. We started at 6:30 and it's 10:15 and the temperature hasn't reached 180. This is my first time using my BGE. I read in the cook book that a turkey should take about 12 to 15 minutes per pound. I would like some feedback. Maybe we didn't set up the BGE properly.[p]Thanks everyone!

Barb,[p]I would up the temp some. I find that chicken gets rubbery cooked at lower temps. I do my chickens at 325* - 350*. At these temps a 4-1/2 lb bird would take 2 hours or less. Also, check your temp guage after it cools off for accuracy. Good luck.[p]Chuck <><
