BONEHEAD BREAKS MY BGE DOME

Hi,

I used my large BGE Saturday to cook burgers and dogs for about 20 people. About an hour after everyone left, a houseguest came up to me with a troubled look. He apologized about breaking my Egg. Apparently, he opened the Egg and forced it closed, which caused the dome to separate from the metal band. I guess he didn't know about the lever to allow the dome to close.

I was wondering if any of you might have an extra top for a large BGE. If so, please email me and maybe we can work out a price.

Seth Anderson

At least he was honest about his mistake. Now find suitable fire ant bed and bury him in it as his reward! ;) As 'Tucky said your local dealer or mothership can get you a new top. Sorry tom hear about it.

Everyone makes mistakes from time to time and bravo for your guest telling you about his mistake. Order one and send him a quick note telling him how much he needs to reimburse you.

I can't tell you how many people these days would have said nothing and walked away.

He does deserve credit for looking you in the eye, However........Everyone knows not to touch a mans grill, whether a $99 charbroil or an Egg.

sorry to hear that but while you're at it why not pop for a new spring hinge too? Those old style lever hinges are accidents such as yours begging to happen! I replaced mine years ago and so glad I did!

furthermore you may have to replace that old hinge anyway because he may have bent it while trying to pull it down. If my memory is correct a bent hinge can not be salvaged - or will forever have issues. A new hinge I believe is about $70 and of course you can always buy a replacement dome from BGE. If you don't have a good dealer close by just call Hotlanta.

I did not know anything about the different hinge designs. When did the spring hinge become available?
