Continuation from Day 3

Here are some pictures of some test fits.

First Mr Egg's new house

Mr Egg (large) is going to sit on this.

It is aluminum diamond plate, the white is the protective cover

And finaly the top deck (redwood) not fastened yet, just a test fit.

The table is a bit taller than most tables out here, a sit sits at 36" instead of 32" (32" + 4" wheel-height. To me this is no issue (6'-1") but the Mrs. nooBBQ at 5'-5"...

Two ideas on the redwood warp

    1. Shim the next board
    2. Plain the warped board
    3. Combine both for maximum
    4. Replace the warped piece if it can't be drawn down under pressure from top and fasteners below.

Note however if this is on the back side, it won't be that noticable.

PS>I'm still voting for powder coating.

Another idea. How about a layer of 3/8" or 1/2" cement board under the diamond plate?

    Awsome table nearing completion..great work.

It will probably work out between 1 and 4 that is, I am going to tighten the hell out of my mutinous board, and shim whatever is left into the neighbor. Having 2 coats on there already, planing is pretty much out.

I am voting for powder-coating as well, however Mr Wallet is having second thoughts.

I thought about cement board, but the large surface area of aluminum and its heat conductivity , combined with a nice air-gap, should pretty much take care of heat issues. In reality, given the egg full bore gets to about 750, I am wondering what the maximum temperature the bottom would get to is? (anyone?).

The aluminum tubing and the diamond plate are bolt in place, with one end floating to allow for different contraction/expansion between the aluminum and the steel. If I get too hot for my taste, I can still take it apart and put the cement board in there.

    Thanks for all the input.

    nooBBQ.

p.s. Speaking of input, how many people have an umbrella on their table? Any do's/dont's?

I have attached an umbrella to mine egg cart. It is great. I have it so it stored off of the cart until it is needed. I simple drilled a hole in the top of the cart to accept the pipe of the umbrella. When installed the bottom of the umbrella pipe rests on the portion of the cart that hold the bottom of the egg. Hope this helps. Nice looking project.

Looks like you have been working! Very nice. I like the way you have incorprated the wood with steel and the alum is a nice touch. ;)

    .

After checking around, powder coating might be well inside my budget. As a matter of fact, for what they quoted me, I am not going to paint.
