How about heating up the probe to 200 F. Should be hot enough to kill the nasties. Could stick it through the daisy and monitor temps, then pull when done.

Just a thought.

I have a box of small alcohol wipes (think about the little things they use to swab your arm before they draw blood), and I use those regularly to ensure cleanliness.

Sometimes, if I'm feeling lazy, I'll stick the probe through the daisy wheel and let it heat up to 225-250. At that point, I feel like whatever is on the probe is crispy.
