What is the use of a fire ring. I have a Fake green egg I have had to buy replacement parts for. The fire box is now a Big Green Egg firebox. The fire ring is a fake green egg ring. The ring does not fit around the fire box. Is this a part I need?

That would be because it is made to sit on top of the firebox.

I recommend you dump the fake egg and go original. To explain I had a friend that tried to convert another ceramic cooker and spent more than if he would have bought new. Just trying to help and if you do find a way to make it work please don't post it as he owes me beer's for about 10 years   :woohoo: :woohoo:
Good luck which ever way you go

IMO Yes. I'm sure it wouldn't be in there if it wasn't needed. Any way you can crumble up some foil and seal what is not sealing. When you say it is not fitting around the box, what is bigger, the ring or the box.

BTW how did the brisket turn out last weekend? Did you disassemble the egg and reposition the FB opening?
  • That is what made the fire box finial split, but on the good side the brisket was almost perfect 7 out of 10.

I've heard of folks removing the fire ring to get the grill closer to the coals. I don't see why you couldn't cook without it if your grid fits on top of the firebox. If you need the extra distance from the coals, you could use three bricks balanced on the edge of the firebox. I've done that on top of the fire ring. Not the best solution, but it works.

I use regular bricks but fire bricks are denser and thinner. They would work better. Not sure where to get them but I'd start at a store that sells wood stoves.
