calibrating Maverick et-73?

Can this be calibrated?

I just received it in the mail and when testing temperature was way off.

Food probe was 20* low
Grid probe was 25* low

This was after it warmed up for 15 minutes too, it was worse with my first test.

edit: I was using boiling water for the test

I tested my thermometer in boiling water and it reads 208ºF instead of the expected 212ºF. Is there anyway to calibrate my digital thermometer?

No. All of our digital thermometers have a tolerance of +/- (3-4) degrees F.

I have an email off to their customer service. When I hear back about this I'll make sure to post the solution.

Got a reply back today.
-NO calibration on the Maverick ET-73
-Temperature probes are good if they measure temperature within +/- 5*

to test set probes in Ice water for 5 minutes. This will measure accuracy. Also suggested to do the same for boiling water.

After 5 minutes the temperature won't move any further and that is your final read.

Make sure not to put the whole probe in water, or else you'll fry it. Also when doing with boiling water make sure not to touch the probe to the metal, and also clip to where the steam won't enter the end of the probe.

I've done ice water, and I got within 4*. I'll be doing the boiling water after I eat my steak


They said if it is really off then to let them know and they'll replace the probes.
