Welcome to the Nikon family! You are gonna love that camera! What lens did you get and does the D60 use the customary flash card as a storage medium? If so, you can get an inexpensive card reader and forget about the software & all provided to off load you pictures.

i got the 18 to 55AF-nikkor lense if that means anything to you, i will probably pick up something bigger later. i got the card reader and down loaded that way this morning but there sd cards no idea what a flash card is, what editing software is easy to use for someone with no clue, i downloaded it thru the my old kodak software from the last camera, but thats really a poor editing program

SD card is a newer form of technology than the flash card. Does your card reader plug into a USB port? If so, it's probably acting like a mini, outboard drive. You can check it out by going to My Computer and looking for an active drive other than your primary (assuming you have inserted the SD card(. Then double-click on that drive and it should open on your desktop. With another click or two you should be able to view thumbnails of your pictures. There's a bit more if you get this far...

That's great! Now you can click on one at a time to view them full size. As each one is highlighted you can click on "File", then "Save as" to your preferred folder. I made a new one and called it "Nikon". When you are done saving the ones you want you can highlight one or all, right click and choose "delete" to remove them from your SD card.

thats good, no need to wear down the battery that way. the camera came with a cord to plug it in to the computer directly and thats what seemed to wear down the battery on the old camera the most, i dont think ill download that option if its not needed.

It will do that unless you have an ac adaptor (another unnecessary expense). As far as software to edit your images (cropping, brightness, contrast, etc) I use an old program called VuePrint which I purchased many years ago. It's very user-friendly and still available for a reasonable price. Basically, you download the program (as many times as you want) and use the purchased serial# to run the software. Unfortunately, they no longer technical support for this product, but I've never needed it. http://www.hamrick.com/upg.html

Congratulations on your new camera. Those picutres are eye candy - very nice.

I would think you and others might be interested in these sties.

Here are some good editing programs and other useful tools. All free to download and full use.

    Basic editing get PhotoPlus 6

Intermediate editing get Paint.net (name not a site)

Advanced getGIMP Win & Mac This is a powerful editing program and takes some learning.

This is another advanced editing program it also contains a resizer IrfanView - This has been very popular for a long time now. Suposidly GIMP is more advanced.

Just for fun Paint program for kidsTux Paing Win, Mac, Linux

Here is a batch picture resizerMultiple Image Resizer

    Well that's enough for now...

Also, Does the D60 have the built in wireless connection (blue tooth) to the computer connection.

On getting your next lens keep in mind there are a lot of Nikon 35 mm film lenses that will connect to your D60. I believe the ratio to digital is 1:35 to 1. I have a film lens which is something like 105 mm to 300 mm zoom. It is really fun on my D70.

The Nikon family is a cult like the egg family welcome aboard! you should have gotten a copy of nikon picture perfect or capture with your camera, both are simple to use. the fastest and easiest is windows viewer which should pop up as soon as you plug in the card reader through the usb port. i have been a nikon fan for years and when you go to buy other lenses spring for the extra few bucks and buy the "VR" "DX" lenses meaning vibration reduction and digital.
    good luck
i hope you realize you have just opened a BIG can or worms by going digital LOL
Once i started buying lenses i couldn't stop i can now shoot from 10.5 MM fisheye to 1600MM telephoto and still looking for more.

the lense i have is the vr dx lense, i took a pic across the lake this smorning, a little grainy after blowing it up enough to see whats over there, but doesnt show any shake and it was hand held, about a quarter mile away. with the right lense it would have been great.
