How many Lacrosse players will 1 Boston Butt feed?

I have done pulled pork before on my BGE, but it has always been one of several main dishes for a gathering. We are hosting my son's lacrosse team dinner and they have requested the, always fabulous, pulled pork for the main course. So a couple of questions for any of you more experienced egg masters:

First, I have a standard size egg and I just bought another grill which I can stack on top of the factory one with some carraige bolts, nutts and washers if i need more grill space - is there anything i need to watch out for when i do this?

Second, how many do you think each butt will feed?

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom !

Jeff

I would allow at least half a pound for each player, assuming you'll have buns, sides, beer, etc. Note, too, that a butt's weight will drop by 25% or more while cooking. So, if you're feeding 20 guys, that would be 10 pounds of finished pulled pork and around 12-15 pounds of raw meat.

Depends on whether to not they are Duke LaCross players and the are on the lamb :woohoo:

OK Seriously. Rule of thumb. 1/4 to 1/3 of a pound per person. You can count on the players eating seconds. I would load them up with sides like potato salad, Macaroni Salad, AND Slaw.

Now having said that.. Raw to finished product there will be a loss of 40% of volume. In other words an 8 raw butt will end up being 4.8 pounds of cooked product.

I hope you have a plate setter or some other means to go indirect. Having a BBQ Guru or a Stoker will be a big help too. Otherwise you may be up all night tending to this cook/

i concour with the wolf... one other thing you might want to think about is when i do pulled pork i always do extra... i put them into foodsaver bags and freeze them (with some coke classic when i remember, but when i don't i always bring some because there is a moisture loss when you reheat the pork and coke works well).... then i can just take the bags of frozen pulled pork and drop them in boiling water... you will never run out.. because you will be the one looking at what is there and be able to drop another bag of previously done pork into a pot of H2O...
