Propane torch

I have read many posts about weedburners and mapp torches.I thought that a weedburner might be too much for me.This little propane torch starts the fire fast.I started the medium with it for the ribs and now I am starting the small with it.Seems to work great but wonder how long the fuel will last?I did not have any trouble starting the medium for a 220* cook.I thought that it might get hot fast, but I just started in 2 spots.I'm happy with it so far. :woohoo: Is there a way to hook this up to a 20* propane bottle?

I get about 3 months out of that one. but the weed burner I'm guessing about 3 years as it's only lit for 30 seconds or less.

I only use the weed burner for cooks 350 & above as with 30 seconds & close the lid your at 300 - 350. But it is a great conversation piece & will scare the crap out of tooltime fans. Wife & dog always get concerned when I use it. :woohoo:  .

:) Just replace the propane cylinder with a mapp gas cylinder and you are in business.
Get mapp gas at Ace Hardware or most any hardware store.
You can use the same torch head.

You can connect it to a 20lb tank. Go to U-Haul and they have an adapter. I love my MAPP and am still on the original bottle. Bought it about 6 months ago. Unfortunately I don't have a chance to cook during the week. I fire up three times on the weekend though.

    Doug,

The adapters are also available at Harbor Freight if that is what you want.

It is cold and there is a lot of snow here so in the winter the flame thrower (weed burner) is the only way to go for me. I can have my egg at temp in 15 to 20 seconds. Spring, summer and Fall I will use napkin/oil or MAPP if I am rushed I will grab the flame thrower.

I only tired propane for a short time and then grabbed my MAPP bottle. It was about half empty and lasted me through the last part of summer, all of fall, part of winter and part of what is trying to be spring.

I would think the small propane bottle would last about as long, MAPP is hotter burning so the lump would logically light faster. I wouldn't bother with getting an adapter and extension hose. If your propane bottle runs out fast then pick up MAPP.

I bought a MAPP this weekend and used it for the first time. I really liked how easy it was to light- and quick too!
