That makes a pretty burger. -RP

Hey, I've just got mine and I have it flipped the other way. Flat side up. Should it be pointy side up?
Thanks! -
I just assumed it should be "pointy side" up to get deeper marks but I could be mistaken  .

flat side tri tip
pointy side strips
i post you decide

I like the pointy ones better. -RP

i like pointy ones, too

Looks good, Steve! I too am in the "pointy side" school for two reasons. First the more precise marks are more appealing to the eye. Secondly I believe with the flat side down it catches more heat and therefore the pointy side is even possibly hotter.

Where did you all get the CI grate?Visit my blog, dedicated to my Big Green Egg Recipies at http://www.bigtsbge.blogspot.com You can also follow my posts on FaceBook under the name Keep On Eggin' or the link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Keep-On-Eggin/198049930216241

Man, that's maybe the best looking hamburger I've seen on this forum. Wish I had a couple right now.

I realize you meant to ask ILL--Egger and not me, but in case Steve isn't reading right now I can tell you he bought it for his large from BGE. It's been a standard eggcessory for a few years now. OTOH the one I use on my small egg I cut out of a rectangular cast iron grill.
-
Thanks for the kind words and I'll have to say it's the best burgers I've made so far in both looks and taste.
-
Why the CI? What is wrong with the porcelin coated? I just orderd my egg and haven't cooked anything on one yet. I have had CI grates on my other grills as well as about every other kind. Never really gave it much thought. I tend to like the thinner grates it seems. IF there is an advantage to the wide CI please let me know. Other than the obvious that it will out live us all...... Thanks!

The OE (original equipment) is fine, but as you tweak your egg you MAY find YOU LIKE the cast iron as a better transfer of heat. Hey, I also love a stainless steel grate for my large. Go figure! BTW welcome to the BGE world - you'll love it!

I know, in my mind, that there's no significant taste difference between the regular grate and the CI, but it sure makes everything one cooks on it look professional. Good looking burgers, IE.
