Any easy neat ways to clean off carbon buildup from dome interior?
Prof Dan
Posts: 339
After a lot of use, my dome became coated with a black crust. No big deal, but it started flaking off onto the food a little. So today I cleaned it with a wire brush. Worked fine, but made a mess on my patio; not all of the crud fell into the Egg.[p]Anyone have any great tricks for non-messy de-crudding? Maybe a custom tool that you can stick in through the top vent of a closed Egg and neatly scour the crud into the Egg itself?[p]Thanks![p]

Prof Dan,
You might want to check out the following topic. Its sort of the same topic.

Cevan ,[p]Thanks, but that is a little different: that's the stuff on the outside. This is the crusty stuff on the inside. The question isn't how to remove it. It's how to remove it without making a mess! I want the crud to fall magically into the Egg. Maybe impossible.

Fire the egg up to 700 degrees for thirty minutes and it will look like this.

Prof Dan, why have the crud fall into the egg? Then you will end up burning it and tasting it? Why not just take an old drop cloth, gunny sack, bed sheet whatever and catch the loose stuff you can scrape off. After removing that nuke it for an hour and you'll be back in bizzness!

kat,[p]Thanks! That works, and it's a lot easier than trying to design a custom tool.[p]Sometimes, I tend to look for a technical solution, rather than a common-sense answer. Oh, well.
