This may not be gourmet but it sure was delicious. I split a Hebrew National quarter pound hot dog and egged it at 400° for one side and then flipped and added a piece of hot pepper cheese for another 3 minutes. I will do this for lunch again! Ahhhh, the tough life of being retired!!!

  • I certainly agree with the "tough" life of retirement. It is without a doubt the smartest thing I ever did. By the way, the dog looks great. I will give it a try if it ever stops raining here-going on a solid week.

Nice idea! I've got a half dozen 1/4 pound dogs made by a local shop that would hold the cheese really well. Will save them for a try at it.

lookit that cute little thing! yours looks like a three-and-a-half incher (from what i hear, anyway).

stikey begots five pounds of chorizo and linguica in the fridge ready to go. man i love that stuff. wanted to do it today, but the wife made p'sketties. tomorrow, though, i'll spark off and eat a couple. they are about 8 or 9 inches long.

by the way... what the heck is "splatcocked'? sounds like maybe it describes when you slip on a tile floor naked from the shower.

this is a pic of from the last cook. i like the cheeese ideer, by the way.

I have some Kobe hot dogs for this weekend. I do not do hot dogs often and was going to pick up some chili last night, the first 3 things listed on the can: water, beans, beef fat. I put it back. Anybody got a good hot dog chili recipie?

kobe as in kobe beef? i wouldn't do anything but maybe run a line of mustard down one side of the bun.

    chili will drown it.

i am with stike but if i were to make hot dog chili i would do this one:

    Chili, Hot Dog, Bente

    1 lb Hamburger meat
    1 cup Ketchup
    1 Onion, Diced
    3 Tbs Yellow Mustard
    2 Tbs Chili Powder

    1 Brown hamburger meat
2 add onion halfway through browning meat
3 when it is all cooked add Ketchup, Mustard, and Chili Powder..
4 simmer for ten minuets if it needs more ketchup add it if it needs more mustard add it if it is to thin add dried mashed potatoes to soak up grease and extra moisture

I saw a dog on TV that caught my attention last week and tried it our. Take your above average Dog (you know either a HN, Nathans' or Boar's Head dog), egg it to perfection, put it on a poppy-seed bun. Now here's the cool part, put a slice of thick cut, crunchy (well done) bacon on each side of the dog, then add chili, some good tillamook cheddar and some diced onions. Of course the Heater in me had to throw on some jalepeno relish.

    One word - "DAMN!"

I ate it so fast, pics were not even a thought!
