Need Ideas for Sunday Dinner!!

Inviting a few friends over for a Sunday dinner. They are interested in purchasing BGE's so what would be good to cook for them to cement their decision. Wife says the Chicken is eggcellent. Was thinking of doing a pork roast, ribs, some ABT's or maybe try a fatty. Anyother ideas, remember I am still sort of new at this also.

Thanks,

I did my first butt last weekend. Despite things not going exactly as planned it turned out to be REALLY good. I think it's a good way to demonstrate how well the Egg works. There are some very good recipes and methods on this forum for doing them. I think Car Wash Mike has it nailed. I followed his method.

    Good luck!

If I'm really trying to influence people toward a BGE purchase, I do ribs, Keri's Hog-Apple Baked Beans (from Thirdeye, but I use the peach filling), macaroni and cheese with wine, slaw and some homemade bread or rolls. I cook it all on the egg.....but, I have 3 eggs. Here are the recipes for the beans and mac & cheese :

    Keri's Hog-Apple Baked Beans

    Ingredients:

3 or 4 slices bacon, diced
2 (28 oz) cans pork and beans, mostly drained
1/2 c. Blues Hog BBQ Sauce
1 lb. smoked leftover smoked pork or beef, or 1 lb crumbled cooked pork sausage
1 can apple (or peach) pie filling
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1/2 green pepper, chopped
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
    2 Tbsp. Mustard (prepared)
1 tsp. chipotle or cayenne powder (optional, to taste*)
    1 Tbsp. barbecue rub

    Cooking directions:

Brown bacon, and sauté onion and green pepper in bacon grease. Mix in remaining ingredients. Bake at 325º for 1 hour, or simmer on stovetop in large pot for 30 minutes if you don't have time to do them in the oven.

*This is a rather spicy recipe due to the chipotle/cayenne powder. Feel free to leave it out if you'll be feeding those who prefer a less spicy taste.

    Macaroni & Cheese with Wine

    Ingredients :

1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
    1/4 cup chopped onion
    3 Tbs. butter (melted)
    3 Tbs. all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 cups milk
    1/2 cup dry white wine
    1/2 tsp. salt
    pinch of pepper
3 cups (12 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese (divided)
    paprika
    dry bread crumbs

    Preparation Directions:

    On range top :
Cook macaroni, drain and set aside.
Sauté onion in butter in heavy saucepan; add flour, stirring until mixture is smooth.
    Cook one minute, stirring constantly.
Gradually add milk and wine; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and bubbly.
Remove from heat; add salt, pepper, and 8 ounces of cheese.
    Stir until cheese melts.
    Add macaroni and mix well.
Pour into a lightly greased 2-quart casserole.
Sprinkle with 4 oz. cheese, paprika and bread crumbs.

    Cooking Directions:

Stabilize egg at 350 degrees with plate setter (legs up) and grid.
Cover and bake in green egg for 15 minutes.
Uncover and continue baking 15 minutes.
Remove and let rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

I have done the beans and they are awesome. Like the change with the peach filling. I will try that. I will definitely do the mac and cheese. That looks great as well. Thank you for your sharing.

I'd do at least one thing that your familiar with & know will be good and ABT's are always a great snack while cooking. What time should I be there & can I wear my gator shirt  .

What sold me on the egg was the first steak I had. Can't go wrong with a nice piece of meat and some king crab on the side.

For an appetizer, try a little escargot - bet they won't see that coming...
