GOODMORNINGEGGHEADS!!!
Rejoice with me for I have undone a problem. No, not a plumbing issue, I took care of that without much to-do this time. In fact, I still think I could switch from "manual" to "auto" and perform that task without coming out of dream state. Maybe I'll try it one dark period.
No, this had to do with my computer. It suddenly started doing crazy things, REALLY CRAZY THINGS. I won't bore you with what all a sickly computer can do but it was surely up to no good. I couldn't even get on the Internet. It finally went capoot enough that I it to Best Buy where they were doing free diagnosis on computers.
Now let me inject here that I am familiar with Best Buy's ultimate intentions to "sell new stuff" and not "fix old stuff" but I figured what the heck, it's free. And if the free diagnosis turns out to be really bad news then I can go from there.
I took it to their GeekDepartment where a real live Geek attached some cables and a monitor and booted my computer up.The guy couldn't even get it to do what it had just been doing thirty minutes earlier. He finally came over and told me the hard drive was likely causing the problem. I said, "How much?" The he went into this long speech about how I might be better off fixing this one because it's an XP and a pretty good model at that. In addition, if I purchased a new computer I would also need to purchase new software and possibly even hardware because Vista was not compatible with most of my software. So I said, "How much?" Then he started with "about $150 for a new hard drive, Another $50 for ordering the drivers and then his voice kinda dropped off as he mumbled other things I would need. Again, I said, "How much?" He finally said,"About $450. More if I wanted them to transfer the data from my hard drive and, oh yea, I should double my memory while I've got it there. I said, "Whoa right there. I'll go look at a new one." I actually needed some time to think.
After telling myself to NEVER purchase anything under pressure I came back over to GeekLand and retrieved mine and brought it home. I fixed me a rum 'n coke, sat down and hooked it back up, and within minutes I had it doing stuff Mr. Geek couldn't make it do. It was still sick and I knew I needed to make that "goodbye old friend" decision. So with nothing to lose I decided to backup everything important and I would just do a full recovery. Take it back to what was on it in 2004 when it was the hottest ticket in town. Who knows, it just might fix it.
It did! I'm now hooked to the Internet and I have been reading lots and lots of Eggciting posts ranging from food to basketball. Of course I'm still reloading programs, photos, music, etc, and I lost a few items of no importance, not to mention a lot of time, but it works and I don't need a new computer, at least for now. I can quickly and easily enter cyberspace anytime I want.
I'm just proud as punch with myself. But now I'm going back to the recharging station via way of the food preparation area and perimeter security observation device. Rodney Dangerbird is not into computers that much so he will find my story boring. I'll just signal him that all is well inside the facility.
Finally, a check of the Forum indicates a ratio of 2/460 carbon units have their computers focused on what's happening here.
Say goodnight Leroy.

Any to all you eggers, stay away from Geek Squad. Heard too many reports of them stealing data off your computer's hard drive.
